Gay Grooms are something we all don't even question these days. But did you know that same sex weddings were only legalised in the UK in 2014. We were the 18th country in the World to make same sex marriage legal. Prior to that historic date you could only have a civil partnership in the UK, which was only legalised in 2005. On the first day it was made legal, 678 same sex civil partnerships took place across the UK. Thankfully this change in the law has led to a lot of wonderful celebrity weddings and some great wedding suits.
Below are some of our favourite Gay Grooms in their wedding photos along with how you can recreate their looks within our hire, custom made suit or made-to-measure collections.
Gay Grooms, Elton John and David Furnish wedding suits

Elton John and his long term partner David Furnish were one of the first couples to have a civil partnership in the UK. Their civil partnership took place on 21st December 2005. David wore a classic black tailcoat with dark grey stripe trousers. Completing his look with a black single breasted waistcoat and black tie. Sir Elton wore a black silk Edward length tailcoat and wide leg trousers, finishing his look off with a white shirt and an ivory tie.
For their same sex wedding held on 21st December 2014, 9 years to the day of their civil partnership, they went to Windsor Guildhall to get their wedding certificate. Both gay Grooms wore dark suits with open necked shirts. Their small reception and blessing was a private affair held at their home. For their reception both Elton and David changed in to black dinner suits with peak lapels, white shirts, black slim ties and white handkerchiefs. Finishing of their look with dark red roses which were a common factor in both their civil partnership and wedding day.

Gay Grooms on their wedding day
Just a small few of our Gay grooms that all looked amazing on their wedding days.

Sad but true...
Whilst researching in to celebrity same sex marriages I think I have learnt something. Although it should be sung loud and proud (excuse the pun) that they are getting married, a lot of celebrity same sex marriages still pass under the radar. Lots of celebrity same sex couples prefer to have low key, smaller non-media events. I have to ask myself is this due to the fact that in society same sex weddings are still not accepted generally? Could it be that some of the bigger magazines/websites are scared of doing the big media circus about them in the same way as they would a celebrity in a heterosexual wedding? or is the quiet wedding exactly what they want?
Guess this is something I will never know. What I do hope is that, as with everything, this attitude changes and we are able to see many more celebrity same sex weddings moving forward.
I have to be honest, I admit, I would love to have been able to have a glimpse at the wedding suits worn by the following celebrities and their husbands. Designer Tom Ford, singer Barry Manilow, designer Michael Kors, Queer Eyes Tan France to name but a few.
