The dress codes for Royal Ascot have been respected, maintained and strictly up held for many years. It is still regarded as one of the great British fashion events of the year with everyone dressed in their finery. This is because the strict dress codes have been kept to such a high traditional standard. After all, it is known around the World equally both for its racing and fashions. You will find that each enclosure has a slight variation on its dress requirements.

Below we have put together a full list of what is requested in each enclosure for gentlemen.

Gentlemen's Royal Ascot suit dress code

The Royal Enclosure at Royal Ascot

Gentlemen are kindly reminded that it is a requirement to wear either black, grey or navy morning dress which must include:

  • A waistcoat and tie (no cravats or bow ties)
  • A black or grey top hat
  • Black shoes worn with socks

Should you be a Royal enclosure member or be invited by a member then you will have to adhere to a strict dress code. If you don't then you will not be permitted in to the Royal enclosure. There is also an etiquette that you must obey whilst in this enclosure with regards to removing your top hat and waistcoat designs or patterns. The official website states

"A gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, a Private Box, a private club or a facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Gardens. The customisation of top hats (with, for example, coloured ribbons or bands) is not permitted in the Royal Enclosure."

"Novelty waistcoats and ties are not permitted. Discreet patterns and those of a patriotic nature (for example, a national flag) are acceptable."

Here at Anthony formal wear we have many hire slim fit Royal Ascot suits for you to chose from. With our hire collection priced at £195.00 for a complete outfit including top hat.

The Queen Anne Enclosure - Royal Ascot

  • Jackets and trousers should be of matching colour and pattern.
  • A tie should be worn at all times. Bow ties and cravats are not permitted.
  • Socks must be worn and should cover the ankle.
  • Jeans, chinos and trainers are not permitted.

The dress requirement is not as strict in the Queen Anne enclosure as it is in the Royal enclosure. Unlike the Royal enclosure you can wear lounge suits. Although you will still see a lot of tailcoats along side the lounge suits. We can provide a sleek modern slim fit lounge hire suit from our collection as well as the traditional tailcoat attire. All of our Royal Ascot suit hires come with slim fit trousers for a more contemporary cut. The price to hire a complete lounge or tailcoat is £195.00. Alternatively a 2 piece suit is £125.00.

Fancy something that will wow the crowds? Why not treat yourself to a made-to-measure suit or custom made suit. You never know it may prove to be lucky, & if it is, then I'm sure you'll want to spend your winnings on another one! The Village Enclosure

This more relaxed enclosure lets you dress in a less formal way. There are far less restrictions than you will find in the previous two enclosures. Although you are still required to wear a jacket and trouser combination it doesn't have to be a suit. Waistcoats are not necessary and cravats and bow ties are permitted.

To hire a 2 piece lounge suit is £125.00 & a complete outfit at £195.00.

The Windsor Enclosure

Whilst there is no official Dress Code for the Windsor Enclosure, Gentlemen are encouraged to dress in smart daywear. It is recommended that Gentlemen wear a jacket, collared shirt and full-length trousers.
